Why we move the spine in six directions.

Elizabeth Adolphson | JAN 17

This six-direction movement of the spine is beneficial for:

Joint Lubrication: Gentle movement of the spine stimulates the production of synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints of the spine and keeps the cartilage healthy.

Disc Hydration: Moving the spine compresses and decompresses the discs between the vertebrae, keeping them hydrated and healthy.

Increased Range of Motion: Regular movement in all six directions maintains and increases range of motion/flexibility, allowing you to move more freely through your day.

Preventing Stiffness: This movement helps avoid stiffness, restriction, and hardening of the surrounding soft tissues, which can lead to pain and dysfunction.

Improved Circulation: Movement promotes the flow of blood and energy through the spine and the nerves that branch from it, keeping them refreshed and channeling energy to the rest of the body.

Muscle Health: Movement of the spine engages and relaxes all the muscles that support the spine, helping them to stay strong and balanced.
