How Do You Feed Yourself?

We have five senses; some are stronger than others. We see through our eyes, hear through our ears, taste with our mouths, smell with our noses, and touch with our fingers, arms, and bodies. We feed ourselves through all our senses.

If you were asked the question, “How do you feed yourself?”, how would you answer? The most popular thing to say would be, I purchase groceries, and make my dinner or I go out to a restaurant and eat. That answer is correct but there is more to feeding yourself than just eating.

For example, dining in an upscale restaurant:

For the Eyes: The beautifully decorated dining room, a tasteful display of wines, customers dressed up, a flower in a vase and a lit candle on your table, the company of loved ones and friends around the table.

For the Ears: The din of conversations, maybe a live band or streaming music.

For the Touch: The feel of the crisp, white tablecloths, the heavy flatware, the feel of a glass or cup in your hands.

For the Nose: The aromas of delicious foods in the air.

For the Taste buds: The taste and texture of the food as your chew.

A feast for all your senses.

HOW DO YOU FEED YOURSELF?

As you ponder what you look at, what you hear, what you smell, what you taste and what you touch, also consider your thoughts. Are you feeding yourself good thoughts and positive words? At the end of practice, when we take a few minutes to meditate, I offer positive words, feeding our minds with positive thoughts.
