Puppy Pose – Melting Heart Pose (Sanskrit – Uttana Shishosana)

This gentle yoga pose combines the elements of child’s pose and downward facing dog. It may be helpful for people with upper back stiffness, fatigue, or chronic stress.

Physical Benefits

· Stretches the spine and shoulders. Elongates the back and helps relieve tension in the spine, shoulders, and upper arms.

· Opens the chest. Counteracts slouching and poor posture by lifting and expanding the heart area.

· Improves flexibility in the upper body. Regular practice enhances mobility in the back, shoulders, and arms.

· Relieves tension in the neck and upper back. Gently decompresses the cervical spine when the head is supported properly on the floor or on a block.

Mental & Emotional Benefits

· Calms the mind. The forward fold aspect can have a grounding, soothing effect—great for stress or anxiety.

· Supports nervous system regulation. Activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest mode).

· Encourages deep breathing. Opens the front body, making it easier to breathe deeply into the lungs and diaphragm.
