November, the month that brings us the Thanksgiving holiday. We count our blessings and are thankful for all that we have in our lives. But Thanksgiving is not the only time we are thankful. I am thankful every day for my family, my friends, a roof over my head, food on the table, and many other things. I am just getting over a cold so I am super thankful to get my health back.
Practicing yoga is one of the ways that I try to stay healthy. It feels good to move my body, to stretch, and to focus on my breath. It's important to keep our backs healthy. Studies show that 80% of Americans will experience back pain sometime in their lives. The chance of having lower back pain increases as you age and 29% of Americans believe stress causes back pain.
In a yoga practice, we move the spine in 6 directions (forward bend, back bend, side bend to the right and left, and twists to the right and left) to keep our spines healthy. Of course, not all these movements may not be suitable for your body. It is acceptable and the right thing to do to skip any poses that don't serve you. Yoga also calms the mind and releases tension and stress in the body.
Subscribe to my monthly newsletter to learn more about yoga and take some time for you by signing up for a class.
Namaste,
Liz
